Rhythm X was founded in 2002 as a small percussion ensemble providing a source of music education and performance opportunities in the greater Columbus area. Quickly we grew to become a premier performance ensemble in the Winter Guard International World Class. Now, with our talented design team and dedicated, second-to-none instructional staff, we serve to not only educate our own performers, but to push the limits of our art.

In our first year as an independent ensemble in the Winter Guard International Open Class, we won the Gold medal, setting our own standard of excellence. Over our seasons in the WGI World Class, we have won the World Championships four times, (2002, 2008, 2009, and 2013) as well as received seven silver medals (2005, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2018, 2022, and 2024) and three bronze medals (2004, 2014, 2023). The Rhythm X Winds group was highly successful, winning four gold medals and one silver medal during the six seasons of operation (2015-2020).

Our staff members have strong backgrounds in DCI and WGI and they teach extensively in other programs across the country. These programs include not only drum corps and independent ensembles, but also private lessons, high school and middle school percussion, wind, and even string programs. More promising is the fact that the majority of our members, in addition to school and work, teach music in programs all over the Midwest. Rhythm X fosters a culture of advocacy for music programs and positive, competent instruction.

Rhythm X strives to provide a first-class member experience and we attract members from across the United States and even other countries. We prioritize creating a culture of mutual respect, hard work, and care. We also aim to connect with local schools and students through educational clinics and eXperience days. We are part of the Indiana Percussion Association and WGI circuits.
