The Audition Process

Auditions to join the ensemble are in October, typically on the first and third Sundays. We release our audition packet in May to allow you time to prepare, and you must purchase the packet/register for auditions to attend. Auditions are in person and assess your musical and visual skills, as well as attitude and teamwork skills. We also welcome those who want to come to auditions as a learning experience but don’t intend to march with the group.

Our Members

The members of Rhythm X come from a wide variety of backgrounds. We contract members from states across the US as well as other countries (such as Japan and Colombia). Some members are already living in the Midwest and drive to rehearsals, while others move to the Ohio area for the season or drive/fly long distances to attend rehearsals each weekend. Members pursue a variety of activities in addition to performing with Rhythm X, including working, attending school, performing with college bands, and teaching high school programs. While most of our members were involved with the marching arts in high school, you do not need to have drum corps experience or be a music major to make Rhythm X.

In order to promote a safe environment for all, Rhythm X mainly considers those who will be ages 18-22 during the season. However, younger students are welcome to audition to gain experience, and in rare cases we will contract someone under 18 depending on talent and maturity level.

The Commitment

Rhythm X rehearses most weekends from December through April, as well as a multi-day camp between Christmas and New Years. Rehearsal typically begins Friday evening around 7 PM and ends on Sunday around 4 PM. Members are expected to be at rehearsals and performances.

Dues for the 2023-2024 season are $2,100. Members are responsible for their own transport, housing, and meals during the season.
