Matt Black
Sound Consultant/Additional Sound Design
Matthew Black is associate director of bands and director of percussion at Carmel High School in Carmel Indiana. He served as the percussion director at Marian Catholic High School from 2014-2019. Matthew graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in music education.
Outside of his work at Carmel, Matthew specializes in percussion design, sound design, classical recording, and mix engineering. He is a sought-after clinician, presenting on percussion pedagogy and electronic music production for Music for All Summer Symposium and Ableton Live.
Matt has spent time on the educational staff of Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps. He designed for Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2020 and is currently the sound designer and audio caption manager for The Cavaliers.
Matthew is a Yamaha Performing Artist and endorses Evans drumheads, Vic Firth/Balter sticks and mallets, Zildjian cymbals, and Ableton Live.
He currently lives in Carmel Indiana with his wife Amy, daughter Julia, and their English Lab Lydian.
